The iOS 9 update just came out for the iPhone, and it has some new technology that can help you keep track of everything you need to know for events. Here are the latest features that can help you work more efficiently and productively from your iPhone.
The newest News app lets you store all the stories and news sources you love in one convenient app. While there is still progress to be made in this app, such as allowing industry specific blogs to be recognized as news, you can still take the time to follow the news that is important to you as an event maker. This app lets you take news with you on the go, and instead of following ten different apps for all your news sources, you can combine that into one simple app. We all know we could do with a little less clutter in our lives, and this app lets you keep helpful information organized. News lets you browse by categories and subjects that you find interesting such as technology, arts, style, and more. Using this app can help you keep up to date on the latest technologies and trend and teach how to use them for your events to make them better. There is potential with this app to help your life become easier.
I am always searching for a great app to jot down my notes, and Apple realized that their previous version of Notes wasn’t cutting it. In order to make notes up to date and useful, notes can do much more than simple text now. Need a to-do list? Use notes. It is actually effective now and enables you to click the circle next to each item you complete. There is nothing more satisfying than checking off that the do list. This improved version of Notes will allow you to keep track of what you are doing with an app that is already built into your phone. It has become convenient to use again.
But adding the checklist feature isn’t all you can do with notes! You can also add photos, weblinks, sketches, or maps to your notes. If you are browsing a website and find something that will be helpful to your event, tap the share button in Safari and you will see the option to add the link to your notes. You can do this within other apps as well, or straight from your photos. With pictures, web links, maps, sketches, and to-do lists as added features to Notes, you have a convenient and free way to keep track of everything you need to do for your upcoming event.
3. Apple Pay
Apple Pay is becoming the trend and it won’t be a surprise in ten years when physical debit or credit cards are no longer around and all payments are done through your cell phone. You don’t ever have to worry about losing your wallet or your credit cards because they are all stored on Apple Pay. If you want, you can pay with Touch ID so only you are able to make payments from your phone. It is secure, safe, and let’s you make payments quickly.
Apple Pay will soon be adding store cards where you can earn points for purchases for places such as Walgreens, Kohl's, Dunkin Donuts, and more. As you are purchasing things for your event using Apple Pay, you will find your life to be a whole lot simpler and more secure.
4. iCloud Drive
This new feature will keep you organized and give you easy access the information you need when you need it. Now with iCloud Drive, you can organize and browse the files you have saved as if you were on your computer. You can preview files without leaving the app or opening them completely to make sure you are accessing the file you are looking for. Stay organized for your event and keep all your vital information close to you.
If you are anything like me, you have files all over the place, but iCloud Drive lets you search by the date you last modified a file, by name, or by tags. This way, you can find the files you are looking for in a quick second. As an event maker, having your files with you at all times can make a huge impact as you are often on the go.
5. Improved Siri
Siri is replacing Spotlight in iOS 9, and with that comes improved responses by Siri. One of the most useful features for event planning is Siri’s ability to create reminders for you. Often as an event planner, our hands are tied and we have a million tasks to accomplish at once. It is often far too easy to let something slip out of your mind and forget to do it later because there just wasn’t enough time to write down a reminder. Now, all you have to do is tell Siri “Remind me about this tonight” and she will automatically create a context aware reminder. An example of this could be that Siri prompts you to check an article online, an email, or a text later. This way, you won’t ever forget what it is you need to get done.
Another useful feature for Siri is her ability to now search within apps and to link to content within those apps. If you have recently used an app to search for something, you can simply say the keyword of what it is you were searching for, and Siri will be able to open the app and link you to your previous search result.
The biggest takeaway from the new iOS 9 is efficiency. While the News app is improved and can help you keep on top of current events in the live entertainment industry, the most important updates come from the resourcefulness of the apps that already exist on your phone. If you are anything like the majority of people, you had a list of pre-installed apps that you never used, but now, you have much more use for the apps than you did previously. With more efficiency, better organization, and time saving methods now in control of your iPhone, you can bet running events will go more smoothly.
